Early morning set off to hike Gonawatta Gala. Rising from the road opposite the hotel, Gonawatta Gala is a wooded, rocky escarpment that is perfect for an early morning or late afternoon hike. The path falls through several types of habitat, including grassland, lightly wooded forest, and abandoned pepper plantations – each hosting its own niche of wildlife and biodiversity. The hike culminates at a collection of boulders at the summit of the climb which affords picturesque panoramas of the river flowing past the hotel and the land beyond. For more athletic climbers, the flat top of the rocks, once clambered onto, provides a private respite for a picnic under the setting sun.
