Ever wanted to experience cultural & historical ruins along with the fulfillment of your urge to experiencing wildlife? Yala National Park is the wildlife reserve you need to add to your bucket list. Yala National Park is the hottest location to spot the Sri Lankan Leopard; situated in the South-East corner of the Island occupying a massive land mass, the park is only a 5hr drive from the busiest hub of Sri Lanka – Colombo.
Sri Lanka is one of the few countries where the population lives side by side with the free roaming animals – in Yala this is pretty much common than the other parts of the country. Yala National Park is a very secure place for all animals to live in. Here the national park is divided into 5 blocks and only 2 blocks are open for the public in order to preserve the natural habitat at maximum effort. At Yala National Park, you can easily come across the following majestic creatures; Herds of elephants, crocodiles, deer, monkeys, buffaloes, birds, sloth bears, leopards and many more. Yes! Yala is mostly famous for spotting the leopards – this preserve is home to about 40 to 50 leopards and it’s most likely that you would come across these majestic creatures lurking the forests hunting for pray or just simply lazing on top of a tree branch.
Wondered when the best times would be to visit this wildlife sanctuary? The best time would be during the dry season, between February to June. With less water in the park, spotting animals in the water reserves would be much easier. Not to be mistaken – the park has it gates open for visitors throughout the year.
Two of the most important factors that brings Yala National Park into the spotlight are the sites within the park such as, Sithulpauwwa, a Buddhist rock temple, and Magul Maha Viharaya.
Looking for home along with the wild life around you? There’s plenty of accommodations available; homestays to super luxury hotels for all times of guests. Jetwing Yala, Cinnamon Wild, Chena Huts & Wild Coast Tented Lodge are some of the popular and highly demanded properties in Yala.
