The Unsolved Mystery of Sri Lanka’s ‘Stargate’.
When you think of Sri Lanka, what strikes first is, its diverse culture, destinations, food and its long rich history, but wait… what about the Unsolved Mysteries! Our Island Paradise is home to many mysteries of its own. Yes, one of which is the mysterious ‘Stargate’.
Before anything else, let us first locate the mysterious ‘stargate’. Do you happen to know where it is? The Sacred City is Anuradhapura is where the Stargate is located. Anuradhapura, locally known as ‘Rajarata’ (Land of Kings) is situated in the very center of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist Culture. It’s only about a 4hr drive from Colombo. This beautiful ancient city is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site, established as the first kingdom of the Island. The city is known to be one of the most sacred places in the Island, as it is home to many holy places; ancient Buddhist Monasteries to the famous dome-shaped Stupas. Anuradhapura, no doubt is one of the hotspots for travelers from around the world; people visit the city of Anuradhapura for its history or as pilgrims…
There have been many unusual sightings in the past, some say they’re UFOs/Aliens some critics say they’re Gods visiting the famous Stupas for worship. Do you want to find this out for yourself? Well, if you’re lucky enough you could. These mysterious sightings are still occurring from time to time to this date. Do you dare to be a victim of such a mysterious incident?
Ranmasu Uyana, also known as the Golden Fish Park lies within Anuradhapura. Right in the center of three famous temples of Sri Lanka, a 40-acre ancient urban park that is looked after by the authorities is where the mysterious ‘Stargate’ is situated.
So, the question arises, ‘Stargate’, what is it? It’s a chart that is said to be a map to unlock the secrets of the universe. ‘Stargate’ is locally known as, ‘Bawa Chakraya’ but most commonly known as, ‘Sakwala Chakraya’. This is a circular petroglyph is 6 feet in diameter with strange symbols and has attracted historians and archaeologists to pre-historic investigators to believers of extraterrestrials. The chart is shallowly carved onto a rock that along with the protected ruins in the park and really excites the historians, archaeologists and the rest of the world is the seats carved in to a flat rock surface right in front of the ‘Stargate’ giving the seats the best possible viewing of the chart and there have been many theories behind this. Some say the chart is an ancient map of the world, some say it’s something to do with extraterrestrial living and links it all the way to other legendary places of Sri Lanka that too contain myths of its own.
However, with lack of evidence and some details being lost in time, the mysterious ‘Stargate’ is really a mystery to this day, hoping answers will be found soon…
