The Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka

Enjoying a drive from Colombo to Anuradapura for about 5 hours with a brief knowledge of the sight and getting more details from the guide we got off in the city to visit the ruins, it was really a mind blowing history behind each and every ruin. Getting all the possible information from the guide regarding these ruins we didn’t fail to experience a fresh king coconut to cool our self in the warm climate.
After an exciting tour in the Anuradapura ancient city we left to relax at a hotel which is not far from the sight.
Like they say pictures talk beyond words, I too have read about the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka seen pictures but the experience of seen it to the naked eyes cannot be fulfilled by words or pictures.
I could say that it’s not exactly a place for adventure but it’s a place to blow your mind with the culture of Sri Lanka giving you the thought of “How” did these happened at that time of era.
Moving out from Anuradapura the next city that we visited was Polonnaruwa, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the second kingdom of Sri Lanka. As we could read and get an idea of Polonnaruwa the main highlight will be the Parakramasamudraya. Visiting the dam it is an amazing creation by man. In Polonnaruwa I would say don’t miss out to visit the Lankatilake temple complex, Thuparama, Moonstone, Gal Vihara Temple complex, Medirigiriya Vatadage, Statue of Parakramabahu the first, Kiri Vihara.
Talking about the cultural triangle in Sri Lanka the highlighted place is the Sigiriya rock. This is the 8th world wonder. We climbed the Sigiriya Rock which took about 2 hours, I would say it is not a easy climb that we could do before that time due to the view on the top of the rock, you could see the entire area around Sigiriya.
The sights really refreshed my mind with all the knowledge that I could obtain while on the tour with an excellent guide on sight.
One of the highlight of the places we visited was the Dambulla Cave Temple, which is a small climb to the Cave temple consist of 5 caves, with the hot weather around the area and the burning rock entering the caves brings you to heaven, (it’s like you have entered an A/C room) your mind will tell to stay for the refreshing feeling in it.
This was the feeling that I got as soon as I entered to the cave with a little bit of knowledge of the area and the cave Temple.
This tour gave to me an immense knowledge about the legendary history of my mother land, which was an experience of a life time.
