Security forces and the Bomb disposal unit defused a suspected parcel inside a van near the church, in Kochchikade last evening. Some media units reported this as a bomb blast, it was however not, but a planned diffusion after the area was cleared of the general public.
As per the Govt. analyst, the
Attacks on churches and hotels in Colombo on Easter Sunday were carried out by
suicide bombers belonging to an extreme group called the National Thowheed
Jamaart.
The CID (criminal investigation department) is currently interrogating 35
suspects arrested over the series of explosions in the country .
INTERPOL has agreed to deploy
a team to Sri Lanka to support investigations into the bomb attacks.
Today, (April 23), has been declared as a National Day of Mourning , in view of
the attacks on churches and hotels .
Clauses related to Prevention of Terrorism was gazetted from midnight
yesterday, to give powers to security forces to ensure public safety: This is what is meant by the state of Emergency,
and we are confident this will enable the security forces to apprehend the
people behind the attacks.
All our guides have been fully briefed and updated and will continue their
current tours but with extra vigilance and precautions. The days itinerary will
be assessed on a daily basis in consultation with the Jetwing head office and
discussed with the clients before proceeding.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation and developments if any and ensure all our guides on the ground are constantly updated in ensuring client safety and security at all times.
Situation in the country is calm, albeit sad and sombre.
