Poson Festival in Sri Lanka

The Poson Full Festival (Poson Poya Day / Poson Full Moon Poya Day) is the second most important, and noteworthy poya day in Sri Lanka. It is celebrated in June every year and commemorates the introduction of Buddhism by Mihindu Thero to King Devanampiyatissa, resulting in Buddhism being introduced to the whole island in the 3rd century B.C.

Anuradhapura and Mihintale:The ancient capital city of the country is Anuradhapura is the large crowds of pilgrims converge for Poson Festival. Since Mahinda Thero first put his foot to preach the word of Lord Buddha, Mihintale became popular as the main center and landmark in Anuradhapura during to the Poson Festival. There are many pilgrims who visit Mihintale to venerate the place every year. A beautiful sight is how the Buddhists pilgrims dressed in white climb the many steps to the top of the Mihintale rock.
Southern Province:In additionally Poson Festival famous in Southern Province of the country, the areas like Tissamaharama, Sithulpawwa, Mulkirigala. Generally, all Buddhists celebrate the Poson similar to Vesak Festival of the country.
