Passikudah and its Distinctive Attractions

Known for its shallow coastline and beaches with clean, soft sand Passikudah is fast becoming a popular destination in Sri lanka for a perfect beach escape. The pristine beaches and luxury properties all blend in to make it a favorable holiday getaway.
Passikudah is situated in East Coast of Sri Lanka, and runs along a clear, calm shallow bay. Its geography makes it ideal for different type water sports activities and furthermore this is perfect for nature lovers.
1. Passikudah bay
The end of the civil war in 2009 gave safe access to this location, and Passikudah became known by many and today has grown to be a popular tourist destination among both locals and foreigners. The key feature of Passikudah that it has one of longest shallow coastlines in the world. In addition nature lovers follow this coastline to explore the coral reef, and take part in water sports like surfing and swimming. The Passikudah bay is also ideal for night diving.
2. Batticaloa lagoon
Passikudah is located in Batticaloa district of the island, and the Batticaloa lagoon is a popular part of the area. The lagoon is home to several islands namely Puliayantheevu, Buffalo, and Bone. A fascinating sight among these islands include the interconnecting bridges, and the biggest bridge in the area called “Lady Manning Bridge”. It is a well-known home to “singing fish” who can be sighted in the moths of April and September shooting up from the water under the moonlight.
For many years fishing has been a traditional activity, and the Batticaloa Light House although built for guiding these fisher folk has now become a key attraction for travelers.
3. The Passikudah reef
The reefs of Passikudah provide key sights for coral life, shoaling fish and rock fish. Due to it not being accessed much the reef system is one of the best in the coasts of Sri Lanka. The key reefs include Mushroom , Vakarai and Kayankerni coral reefs.
4. Deep sea diving
Passikudah is a great sport for those looking to deep sea dive. There are many popular wrecks that attract the deep sea diver including the HMS Hermes, The Marrakkala Gala, and the Lady McCullum wreck.
5. Luxury properties
The Sri Lankan Tourist Development Authority has been actively involved in developing the Passikudah region for tourism. This has seen many luxury properties coming up including Sunrise by Jetwing. Other properties include Uga Bay by Uga Escapes, Anilana Passikudah and Sun Aqua Passikudah.
