Opening of President’s House ‘Queen Cottage’ Nuwaraeliya

Under the direction of HE the President we are happy to inform you that the President’s House – Nuwaraeliya known as “Queen’s Cottage” built in latter part of 19th Century will open the gates to the Foreign visitors from 1st November 2012.
This landmark house was designed and furnished in the colonial style and is still retaining such features and maintaining the old English-style lawn and garden. This historic building was declared to be a ‘Protected Monument’ under the ancient monuments specified in the Antiquities Ordinance (Chapter 188) by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and National Heritage ( Gaz. No. 1486 of 23 February 2007). This grand mansion was built in British architectural style during the late 19th Century by the British Colonial Administration of the Island for the use of the Governor of Ceylon as a vacationing residence in the cold highlands of Sri Lanka. It was subsequently occupied by the Governor Generals after the independence in 1948 and the Presidents of the Country since 1972.
Tourist can visit the President’s House from 10.00 am to 4.30pm. Entrance ticket is priced @ Rs.2000/- for adults and Rs.1000/- for children (under 12yrs), will be available at the entrance gate of the President’s House N’eliya.
