Jetwing Lighthouse:For Earth Hour 2013, we have arranged the following: 1. A presentation on climate change and whales & dolphins in Sri Lanka for Sunday School students at Thotagoda Buddhisht Temple, Karapitiya, Galle. Around 150 students are expected. 2. Tree planting programme at Kurunda Kanda site with the school children – About 100 trees expected to be planted. 3. Candle-lit dinners and switching off lights in main areas across the hotel. |

What: “Earth Hour” schools programme Who: Jetwing St. Andrews hotel No. of Participants: 60 Students Jetwing St. Andrew’s organize a tree planting programme and a lecture series at at Kande-ella Nature reserve, Ambewela with “Pasirara Niyamubata ” societies in Nuwara Eliya on 22nd March , 2013 . Objectives of the lecture series –
The lectures will focus on climate change, green practices employed by Jetwing St. Andrews and wildlife and biodiversity conservation, which is to be conducted by the Resident Naturalist – Ishanda Senevirathna. A nature tour will also be conducted with the students to the Kande Ella reserve to observe flora and fauna in the highlands. For the “Earth Hour ” programme on the 23rd March 2013: Project Summary Date: 23rd March 2013 What: “Earth Hour ” hotel programme Candle lit dinner in Old Course Restaurant Oriental music at Old Course Restaurant Lighting “Earth Hour” lantern front of the Old Course Restaurant Traditional Fire dance in Tea Terrace Lighting decorated oil lamps in public areas Arranging 60+ in Tea Terrace We are providing candles to all guest rooms and requesting them to switch off the lights inside the rooms and contribute “Erath Hour” inside the room if they like. |
Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions:Following steps will be taken to commemorate Earth Hour:To reduce use of energy for one hour (candle lit dinner, switching of solar panels – these solar panels will be shut down for the entire day. Stored energy during day time can be used during the night.)
Foster school children will do up posters under the topic “earth hour”. We will send you the posters for campaign purposes. Tree planting ceremony by the house guests in our own garden – respective photographs will be sent. Will take other appropriate steps as well to celebrate a meaningful Earth Hour. |
Jetwing Vil Uyana:10.00pm to 11.00 am: Tree Planting at our premises involving staff and hotel guests07:00pm to 08:30pm: Loris watching excursions will be conducted free of charge along the hotel nature trail which is demarcated as a Loris Conservation Site, where you have the opportunity to learn about and witness one of Sri Lanka’s most mythical and elusive species of primates. To minimize disturbance and enhance the guest experience, Loris watching can only be conducted for up to 04 persons at a time, so bookings will be taken on a first come first serve basis. Each excursion can last around 30 mins in duration.
08.30pm to 9.30 pm: Cutting power for one hour and lighting oil lamps across main areas of the hotel. |

Xiengthong Palace (Laos):As facilities in Luang Prabang are limited for some things, we plan to switch off the lights and set torches and candles instead. We expect very little occupancy, so we will do a traditional Lao food cooked on charcoal burner on the traditional way, and set up the tables accordingly. |
