Hotel J, the new Jetwing budget hotel was declared open by Economic Affairs Minister Basil Rajapaksa in Negombo yesterday.
Minister Rajapaksa praised Jetwing Chairman Hiran Cooray and Managing Director Ms Shiromal Cooray for the efforts they have taken in the Sri Lankan hospitality industry.
“Hiran and Shiromal truly have hospitality in their blood thanks to their father Herbert, and today the brand Jetwing is one that is reputed globally. From small, humble beginnings, Jetwing has risen and it is with pleasure that I congratulate them on their new venture – Hotel J. The new brand will complement their main offering to the high end traveller, by providing select service accommodation where every unit of money spent is returned with the most value. The first hotel under the brand has opened in Negombo, and I am honoured to have been present as Chief Guest. Hiran hopes to take the brand much further, and I wish him and Jetwing all the success possible, as their efforts are driven with passion; passion to elevate Sri Lanka to the position she deserves in the world of international tourism,” the Minister said.
The Minister noted that for a long time Sri Lanka had been forgotten, but now it is on level with other countries as a tourist destination.
“In many countries, tourism is a major earner, and as our beloved President set forth in the Mahinda Chinthana, we believe that we can make tourism Sri Lanka’s one of the largest foreign exchange earners, along with becoming the fastest job creator and thus reduce unemployment,” he said.
