Somawathiya temple houses the right tooth relic of Lord Buddha. This is one of the best hidden away holy & revered places in the country.
There’re photos which has captured many supernatural things related to the temple. One photo has captured a Dalada Perehera with elephants coming from inside the fully enclosed Temple. This is one of many such incidents.
Several months of the year, the temple & its surrounding area is flooded with water.
Wild elephants come out of the jungle to pay their respects to the temple & the tooth relic. There’re photos showing elephants going down on 2 knees, keeping their trunk on the temple & bowing their heads in respect of the relic of Lord Buddha.
During the time of the civil war with the LTTE, rebels have been occupying the area close to Somawathiya. The monks in the temple say that during those days they have witnessed, the elephants coming out of the forest at night & positioning themselves around the temple & standing guard until Sun rise.
An extremely holy temple deep in the jungle.
