During the period of July to October, over 300 elephants can be seen together. They mostly travel to the water tanks and in search of food.
- Experience culture with the Esala Perahera
The Esala Perahera held in July and August each year is a special parade to celebrate the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic. Elegant costumes, dancers, and the procession carrying the Sacred Tooth Relic can be seen at the event.
- Explore Little England
Popularly known as Little England, Nuwara Eliya is the coolest area in the Sri Lanka. There are many places to visit in the Nuwara Eliya including Lake Gregory, Hakgala botanical gardens, kovils, waterfalls and tea plantations. The Nuwara Eliya season is known to be in April, mainly due to the flowers blooming. Furthermore during this month golf tournaments, horse races, flower exhibitions, carnivals, and events are held during this season.
- Walk to Galle Fort
Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site that situated in the south coast of Sri Lanka. It was built by Portuguese on 1588, and was used as administration seat by British, Portuguese and Dutch. The value of these architectural monuments cannot be defined, therefore they are protected by the local authorities and special permission is sought before any renovation or work is done. A popular site with travellers due to its colonial charm and modern restaurants, it’s a key stop for anyone visiting Galle or just passing by.
- Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Sigiriya is another UNESCO World heritage site well known around the world as a key site when visiting Sri Lanka. It portrays the Sri Lankan culture, tradition and pride to the world. Sigiriya has built by the King Kashyapa over 1600 years ago, as fortress. Other attractions at Sigiriya include the Sigiriya frescoes, mirror wall, and lion gate. The best time to climb this 200 m (660 ft) fortress is between 7 am – 5.30 pm.
- Worship the Tooth Relic in Kandy
Kandy is the last kingdom of the Sri Lanka situated in the centre of the country and also a UNESCO world heritage city. Visiting the Temple of Tooth is one of best thing to do while in Kandy. The octagonal five storied building was built during the rain of the last king in Sri Lanka, Kind Sri Wickrama Rajasinhe. Travellers have an opportunity to participate in the “puja “sessions in the morning. This is a very spiritual and calming place for those looking for a spiritual escape.
