Dear Friends,
To many people December brought about the “most wonderful time of the year!”. I hope it was the same for you too. Reminiscing the good times of the year ending, making plans for the New Year, meeting friends and family over Christmas and the Holiday season, exchanging gifts, seeing the New Year in are just a few things that all of us tried to cramp in to a few days. I too had many friends visiting Sri Lanka from overseas and always wonder why they cannot space it out throughout the year, as it becomes one huge celebration from lunch to dinner and sometimes breakfast too! Of course this is the Holiday season naturally.
At Jetwing we were also busy as December to March is when our arrivals peak. It is a positive stress situation where we are competing for the last room or the last vehicle simply to accommodate that last minute booking. The streets of Colombo have also been beautifully decorated and lit giving it a wonderful festive cheer. The slight nip in the air makes it even better. Colombo is at its best and its worst at this time of the year. Shops are full of goods with interesting sales on offer, Christmas cake and mince pies are beautifully laid out at the Goodies Huts at Hotels, Christmas parties abound giving everyone an opportunity to be merry, but amidst all this the traffic comes to a virtual crawl. We are hopeful that this traffic situation will be vastly improved with a new flyover that is scheduled to open this year.
Jetwing Hotels opened another property “Jetwing Surf” at Pottuvil point. This is 5 minutes away from the world famous surfing hot spot Arugambay and is among the top 3 dive points in the area. The 3 being, Arugambay, Pottuvil Point and Whisky Point. The Hotel has a unique design as it is based on the concept of a breaking wave, which is synonymous with the area. Its design has been already feted with its young designer John Balmond receiving an award in Singapore. I am anxiously looking forward to visiting it this year. The area has many other attractions for the non-surfers like me. There is wildlife , nature/village walks, partying on the Arugambay strip etc. to keep
everyone happy.
We also opened Hotel J at Unawatuna. This is a part of the limited service brand and is ideally located by the road on the busy Unawatuna stretch.
Jetwing Adventures is proud to be associated with a charity cycle ride “Around the Pearl” which is collecting funds to buy/donate wheel chairs for children wth Cerebral Palsy. This is scheduled from the 12th to the 22nd of April where local and foreign riders will cycle along the beautiful coastline of Sri Lanka, a total of 1444 kms. If anyone is interested, please get in touch with us as it is for an extremely worthy cause. |
