In an effort to honour and support those who are fighting against cancer, Jetwing Hotels once again partners with TRAIL, a journey made to raise funds for the establishment of a new cancer treatment facility in Galle. After seeing to a successful walk in 2011 with millions uniting for the worthy cause, once again TRAIL 2016 aims for bigger and better for cancer patients and survivors.
Joining this worthy cause as the hospitality partner, this time around a number of associates from Jetwing will join the walk itself with the pledge of raising USD 50 per walker by means of donations. In commitment to generate better facilities for cancer patients, the walkers will stride for 28 days commencing from Point Pedro on October 6th, 2016 and reaching Dondra Point on November 2nd, 2016. Associates from Jetwing Jaffna, Jetwing Vil Uyana, Jetwing Sea, Jetwing Blue, Jetwing Beach, Jetwing Lagoon and Jetwing Lighthouse will join the walkers in contribution to TRAIL 2016’s success story.
With its beginning dating back to 2011, TRAIL is an initiative by Nathan Sivagananathan and Sarinda Unamboowe in conjunction with Colours of Courage Trust. TRAIL carries a message of unity and understanding while raising funds in aid of cancer treatment, with 2011 seeing the establishment of the Tellippalai Trail Cancer Hospital in Jaffna with the support of over 30,000 walkers and more than 250,000 donors. Fully functional and equipped with cutting edge equipment, the hospital has treated over 4,500 patients since opening its doors in 2014. With USD 2.6 million raised in 2011, the aim of TRAIL 2016 is to raise USD 5 million to build a cancer treatment facility as part of an extension of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle.
With a number of key figures joining the walk last time, TRAIL 2016 brings together celebrities and brand ambassadors Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jaywardene, Jacqueline Fernandez, the mountaineering duo Jayanthi and Johann, Rio 2016 Paralympic medal winner Indumathi Karunathilaka and many others to rally around for the purpose of building better cancer treatment facilities.
Understanding the significance of humanity, Jetwing through its initiatives heavily concentrates on sustainability.
